Our First Trip

I think I have found my new favorite activity!  Geocaching is so much fun.  It can be hot, sweaty, frustrating, but when you find that cache, OMG!  We went today for the first time.  A couple of friends invited us along with them.  (Thank you guys!)  If you don’t know what this is, then you are totally missing out.  It is basically a huge treasure hunt, with cryptic clues and all!  You search for caches, that come in all kinds of different sizes and containers.  Inside you can have anything from just a log to sign, to little trinkets that you can take and exchange for one of your own.  There is an app you can download to make it a little easier.  It is a GPS search, and we know how wonky those can get so sometimes you have to widen your search area.

Today we found three out of four.  We think the fourth one was washed out by all the rain we had the last month.  Today we tramped through the woods and the Hellion got to learn about poison ivy and poison oak.  We also went to an old car graveyard.  This was the first one we found and I am proud to say I found it!  Took a while, but we were so excited that we didn’t give up!  This one had little kiddy toys so we took one and left one of our Ninja’s in its place!  D had me write in the log, “You got Ninja’d”.

Our second one of the day was much easier, though the clues were a little misleading and we had to expand our search from where the GPS coordinates was saying we were.  D was excited because it was at the Library and that is one of his favorite places.

The final one was in a residential neighborhood.  Whoever put it up was extremely into geocaching!  It was the COOLEST cache site ever!

The box with the parachute is attached by a string and you can pull him up into the box or let him down with a pulley system.  It was very creative!

Today was a total hit and it wasn’t something we had planned.  We are both hooked now, so I might have to add a geocaching page to my blog just to keep track of all of our adventures!  I highly recommend trying this at least once, if you have any kind of adventurous spirit you will love it!
